The main tourist attraction in Dominican Republic is it's gorgeous beaches. But there are so many, how do you choose? Here is where I think you should catch some sun!
Bahia de las Aguilas
I have said it before, this is my favorite beach in the country. An absolute hidden gem, everything about it is just perfect (for me). The beach is clean, the food is great, there is a camping option, it is out of the beaten path for most tourists, and of course having the best diving experience in the country is a huge bonus in my book. The only downside to this beach is that it is quite hard to reach. But hey, no pain no gain!
Boca chica
The best place to get the local experience. Being the closest beach to the capital makes it heavily frequented by the locals, and has plenty to offer. It has everything you can imagine having on the beach, and it is one of the easiest to reach. If you like you beaches vibrant with music and people, this is the place for you!
El Valle
The best beach if you do not like company. Although the beach is frequented by tourist buses, they only stay a short time. So if you managed to get there without a tour bus, you can spend the rest of your day practically alone. With an amazing view all for yourself, a place to camp and a nice village nearby with locals to buy food from, this is definitely one of the beaches we liked the most. A real hidden gem if you manage to get there!
Macao
A beautiful beach that is overshadowed by the number of the touristic beaches in the area. We have witnessed a bus of tourists visit the beach for as short as 30 minutes before hoping back on the bus and going to do the same at probably 10 more beaches. The beach is long and clean, it offers overpriced drinks and food, but if you plan smart and buy those in the village before reaching the beach you will manage to stay away from the only crowded places and have an amazing beach all to yourself.
Playa El Morro
In the far northwestern corner of the country, you'll find this gem that is part of a national park. There is a fee of 100 Peso to enter the park, but you'll be able to enjoy one of the most beautiful (and taken care of!) beaches in the country. The park is closing around sunset so that would be the only drawback, but I think the darkness is not part of catching sun anyway.
Isla Saona - Mano Juan
Off the Caribbean coast there is an island (yes, an island of an island) that is called Isla Saona. There are different tours that will take you to different beaches around the island, but our favorite is Mano Juan. At the time of writing these words the beach is not too developed yet, which gives it extra magic! You might need to bring your own supply. I mean, there are plenty of places to eat or drink, but better ask them before, because the supply is not coming every day. There are also enough accommodation, and if not you can just bring your tent and sleep on the beach.
Final Thoughts
Like I wrote before, there are many beaches. There are many of them that I did not visit yet. Out of the ones I visited, these are my favorites. I hope this list helps you prioritize or in any other way. Did you enjoy one of the best beaches in Dominican Republic? Good! Do you think I missed an important one? Tell me!
